My 18 yr. old son and I are traveling to Rome in mid-July for 5 days. I would like to arrange a "guided tour" with Coopculture to the Forum, Palatine Hill, and Coliseum. Is this possible? Or, is the current tour they offer only a "self-guided" tour?? I've check into Through Eternity Tours and while they look amazing, they seem quite expensive. Many thanks for a first time traveler to Rome!
Right now the coopculture site has two tours of the colosseum. The regular tour and the underground/third tier tour. The information on both tours is about the same, all about the structure, but on the regular tour you only tour the areas open to the general public. Both tours are conducted by an actual guide, not an audio guide. You must call to book either tour. The number is on the coopculture website.
There was a tour of the forum/palatine hill being offered by they are discontinuing it for some reason. Hopefully, they will re-instate the tour at a later date. For now, you can use a guide book and map or an audio guide if you don't want to hire a tour guide for those two areas.

I would use Rick's free audiotours. Why pay for a service Rick offers for free?
Thank you for the responses! I checked this morning and it seems they have reinstated the Forum/Palatine Hill tour as a combo ticket with the Colosseum. Since this is a "guided tour," how do you know what time you are signing up for? The purchase page asks for payment, name, & email only.
The entry ticket is good for the colosseum, forum and palatine hill. It does not include any tours. Those must be booked separately by calling the number listed on the site. I have no idea where you are seeing this as a guided tour. Entry tickets are open ended and are good until the end of the year. You can use them at any time. Once validated they are good for one entry per site over the course of two days. Tours can be booked but are for specific times and dates. You tell them which date and time you want. They do not set that for you. Again, you cannot book tours online, only tickets.
As for audio guides, you can rent them across the street or download them from the web. I would use the ones from the web so you don't need to bother returning it when you're done.

Looks like you're on the right track. Buon viaggio!
