We will be spending 1 night in Cinque Terre (having left Rome) before heading to Florence. As of now, we have 3 nights booked in Florence with the idea of day trips using Florence as a base (been to Florence before). Our thoughts are only spend two nights in Florence now, and to rent a car in Pisa and drive to ????? We were thinking maybe staying in a smaller Tuscan village might be more of an experience. We've been to Sienna for a couple of hours before. Any really must do places you can recommend that would make for a great experience - or do we just day trip it and keep our three nights in Florence? Are any of the suggestions easy to reach by train and skip the rental?
Pisa and Lucca are easily accessible by train from Florence. No need for a rental car to go to either. Visiting them would make for a good day trip.
I would spend a 2nd night in CT, so you have a full day to spend exploring the 5 towns.
Traveling there from Rome, spending one night and moving on the next day gives you time to explore just the one village where your hotel is.
I would also vote to spend a 2nd night in the C.T. as 2 nights only gives you part of a day + one full day.
Spend two nights at the Cinque Terre.
