Cooking Tours in Rome and Amalfi Coast

Myself and three other travelers are planning a trip to Rome and the Amalfi Coast next June. Does any suggest any good cooking or food tours in those places?

I did a great cooking lesson with Cook with us in Rome. http://www.cookwithusinrome.com (Hope this link works!) There were 6 of us in the class and it was a great hands-on lesson. I would highly recommend it.

As far as food tours go - in Rome - Eating Italy Tours - I've done the Trastevere and Testaccio food tours and loved them both. If you sign up for their emails and wait for a while, they may send out a discount code for a food tour.

When I was in Ravello this past September, I walked by a sign for Villa Maria cooking classes and saw the participants picking eggplants and tomatoes in the garden. So that may be something to check out.

Have a great trip!

When we will be in Sorrento in early March, we are planning on taking a cooking class at a working farm on a hill at the tip of the peninsula just across from Capri. It is sponsored by our B&B, Piazza Tasso Sorrento, and it features a 5.5 hour tour/class during the day, consisting of picking lemons and making limoncello, making fresh gnocchi, pizza, etc. Looking forward to it!

We always try to do at least one cooking class each trip, as they have been memorable and completely out of the ordinary. First was in Taormina, Sicily at a restaurant after shopping at the morning market, the second was in Greve-in-Chianti, in Tuscany, featuring super Tuscan wines as well. Then last year we did a class in a tiny kitchen at a Salerno apartment where we learned the tricks of the trade by the 70-ish owner of the B&B at which we were staying.

Enjoyed every minute of each of them!

I'll second Cook with us in Rome. The class that starts in the morning starts to Campo de' Fiori for a walk through the market for vegies and then back for cooking.

We had a great time with "Spaghetti in the Family" cooking class in Rome.

The class was easy to take the train to. It's held by a fun family, in the Aunt's home. My daughter and I tool the class where we went to the market and then came back to the house to cook. Great experience to spend time in a proper Roman home.

A hint. We took hot pads with local designs on them (NW Indian for us.) The classes were so personal and friendly it was fun to leave a simple gift with the hosts.

Check out the all day cooking class with Mama Agata in Ravello. She has a wonderful cookbook.
