Cooking Schools

Planning a return trip to Italy in the fall of '09. Six of us would like to attend a cooking school, 3-5 days. First choice is the Tuscany region but we are open to all suggestions. Preferably a small school that takes 6-8 people and lodging on location or nearby. Thank you!

I have not done any cooking classes, so I cannot speak from personal experience. I think the Tuscany area would be a wonderful area to do such a class. However, if you do not find anything there you are happy with, you could check out this group in the Cinque Terre: http://www.acasa5terre.it/cookingclasses.html My only experience with them is that they helped me book a room last September, but I did think some of the other classes they offered looked interesting. International Cooking School has a variety of classes in Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany. I took a weeklong class in Bologna (arrive Sunday, depart Saturday a.m.) that was terrific, a fun combination of time in the kitchen and off-site tours (factory where they made parmaggiano-reggiano, etc.). Lodging was in one of two Bologna hotels (one very expensive, one moderate) a short walk from where the class was held. Really liked Bologna and being in a city a bit less touristy and would recommend them highly. Their website is: http://www.internationalcookingschool.com/.

Classic Journeys also has a variety of cooking classes in Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast, as well as elsewhere in the world. I haven't taken any with them but have had friends who recommend them highly, and they were my second choice. Their website is worth checking out as well: http://www.classicjourneys.com/
