Looking for a cooking class near Florence. Hoping to find something more advanced ! Any suggestions ?
My daughter and I were in Florence 2 summers ago and did a full-day class at a farmhouse about 15 minutes outside of Florence. You start with a market tour in Florence, with a guide who shares lots of interesting history, Italian food trivia, etc., and then a bus takes you to the farmhouse. At the farmhouse the class is taught by a chef who's an expat from Seattle and a delightful Italian named Carmella (who owns part of the property). They (and the spectacular scenery/fabulous kitchen) were the key to the day being so awesome. They also bring in other charming Italians who show you how to make authentic pizza. It was a full day of hands-on cooking, eating, and enjoying every single minute of it! Some friends who got married last summer did the same class on their honeymoon there, and loved it just as much. (I'm a fairly advanced cook and my daughter doesn't cook at all, and the class was the highlight of the trip for both us. I already knew how to make homemade pasta and the other things we cooked, but I did learn some things (we made the best bruschetta I've ever had) and the experience was just a blast no matter what the level of skill in the kitchen.)

I went to the same cooking class as described above by Emilie. It was an amazing day and still one of my fondest memories out of many trips to Italy. I would highly recommend it.
We loved the Food & Wine Academy located by the market. Book through Florencetown Tours. Started with a tour of the market, buying some meat to cook. Then walking over to their location that had several countertop islands so people were spread out and not jammed together. We made pasta, bolognese sauce, ravioli & tiramisu for dessert. Great instructors and a good time. They served tomatoes & basil with some very old, sweet & wonderful balsamic vinegar. Be sure to buy a couple of the small bottles from them. It is liquid gold for your mouth.
