My husband and I are visiting Italy for the first time next week and are interested in booking a last min cooking class (preferably for 2). We'll be in Cinque Terre for 2.5 days so this would be the ideal location, but we will also be in Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan for 1-2 days each. We are foodies so quality is important, but we're also students so more budget-friendly options are appreciated! Thanks.
What is your budget limit? We have done a couple of classes in Italy but they were both 150euro plus.
And are uou going to the Expo in Milan given your interest in food?
Yes, heading to the Expo! Not sure what to expect there though. 150 euro sounds fair. I didn't expect a cooking class to be cheap but it seems like it would be a great experience!
We have done classes in Matera and Turin but a friend did cookingclassesinrome.com and enjoyed it. Not sure of their rates though.
I went through Viator a few years ago in Florence. Had a nice 5.3 hour class, including a trip to the market to pick out stuff. Learned how to make homemade pasta, bolognesese sauce and tiramasu. Met some great people. It is a smallish (25) class, lots of hands on. I've made this meal several times since I have been back. Was about 100.00.
Vecchia Scuola Bolognese in Bologna. Small classes, great people
Have had 3 great cooking classes over the years. In 2010, we did a seafood-based market shop/cooking class in Taormina, Sicily that was fantastic, then on the same trip, a more leisurely one in Chianti. Prices were expensive then, mostly due to the exchange rate, 180-350 Euro for the two of us.
But in March of this year, down in Salerno, we took a great class at our B&B owner's apartment. Fantastic comfort food at their house--homemade tagliatelle with fish sauce, eggplant parmigiana and tiramisu from scratch. 100 Euro for the both of us, a steal.
