We're taking a first trip to Italy in late August and are trying to figure out a good hotel for our 3 nights in Rome. I appreciate any recommendations/first hand experiences.
Thanks!

Harris, a few years, 2006 I think, we stayed at Residenza Canali, near Piazza Navona. Very pretty small hotel on a small street. We had a very large room and the breakfast was wonderful. residenzacanali.com

Rome Hotel Suggestions
My husband and I stayed at Hotel Smeraldo three years ago and liked it--the location near Campo di Fiori is great, the staff was nice and the room was very clean!
You can also check Trip Advisor to make sure that these suggestions meet your requirements.
First, you need to define convenient? What I think is convenient you might not. We always stay (4 times) in the Termini area because we think it is super convenient to transportation, walking distance to hotels, restaurants -- others do not. Try Hotel Sonya, Aberdeen, or Contilla.
Very good point! Convenient for us would be something near restaurants, nightlife and some tourist attractions. Not sure if that narrows it down, since I'm sure most of Rome would fall into this. I've read the Pantheon area is a good central location as well as the Termini station...I'm just looking for first hand experiences of hotels that have worked well for different people.
I'll take all the recommendations and evaluate after that.
I just returned from Rome and spent 4 nights at the RS recommended Gulliver's Lodge. The location was great, about an 8 minute walk from the Tremini. We really enjoyed the restaurant located next door. The Colosseum and Trevi Fountain were close by. Plus the price included a wonderful breakfast and the hostess was very helpful with sight seeing tips. I highly recommend it!
Nicolas Inn near the Coliseum is a great place to stay. It's a b&b so there isn't 24 hour reception but the owners are helpful.
