Contactless Credit Card on T2 TRAM from Firenze airport to Train Station

Can I buy a TRAM 2 ticket using contactless credit card onboard the tram from Firenze Airport to the train station?
Some sites say I can while others say that I must buy before getting on the Tram.

Thanks!

The ticket machine is right there on the tram platform where you board. Is there a reason you can't or won't buy it from that machine?

I used a CC to pay for my ticket, but I don't recall if it was contactless (this was early 2024).

Of course you can.
You can buy tickets in several ways. See below then click on “where can I buy one”. Then expand the method you want. You will be directed to the AT (Autolinee Toscane) website.
The tramway is run by the GEST company while buses are run by the AT company. Both are part of the same French RATP Company group, so basically they are all part of the same mafia family.

Yes, I routinely use my credit card on Florence buses and trams. Boarding the tram, there are dedicated machines (not the ordinary ones used to stamp paper tickets). You tap your card and the screen becomes green, this means the ticket has been registered. Some rules:
- one card per passenger; you cannot have multiple persons on the same card at the same time
- tap when you enter, no need to to tap when you exit as there is only one urban fare (but on long distances buses you would have to tap entering and exiting)
- tap every time you board a tram or a bus; if you are within the time limit of a ticket (90 minutes) you will be charged only once
- the actual charge will be on the following day

Should the inspector check the tickets, he will tap your credit card on his/her machine and check that the number has been recorded

If you want to buy actual tickets, buy them in the shop selling candy, cigarettes, magazines etc , just before you exit the airport to the outdoors.
The machines on the platform get crowded and slow with people trying to figure them out.
Quicker to buy beforehand.
With an actual ticket, remember to validate it in the machines on board.
I believe they are bright yellow.
