Contacting hotels after arrival in Italy

I thought that I probably should contact the different hotels a day before each arrival to insure everything is OK. I have confirmations for all my hotels except for two small room rentals that I corresponded by email. Do you think that is a good idea and should I use phone or email? Thanks again for all your help!! Only a month before we leave and I'm getting more exited every day. It's the first time that I have made my own trip plans and itinerary. We will be going for Forty days!! I told my wife I'd bring tools to build an Ark! Thanks once more!! Jim ;-)

It won't hurt to call to confirm, however it's likely not necessary. Phone rather than email.
If you plan to build an ark I hope it's not for the month of July. You won't see enough water to wet the ground, let alone float something.

Jim, As Roberto mentioned, it doesn't hurt to confirm hotel reservations. I don't always do that unless I'm going to be late, as some of the smaller hotels may not always have someone working the desk in the evenings. Phone would probably be a better method to contact them, as they may not be checking E-mail on a regular basis. I always travel with a Cell phone, so it's easy to call.

I make reservations well in advance, so I like to confirm via email (so I have a reply) or by phone a day or two before, and if I am delayed on the day of arrival, I call. Most ark-building tools will not make it through TSA unless you check luggage. Have a great time, Zoe.
