Hello! We are planning a walk from Assisi to Spoleto for 6 days followed by a trip to Venice. Does anyone have info regarding trains getting to and from Assisi and Spoleto? It looks like the line going to Assisi is from Florence and Spoleto goes to Rome.
Would it be better to reverse the walk and be going north?
Has anyone out there done the St. Francis walk? Any information much appreciated!
Dianne
There are numerous trains from Spoleto to Assisi each day. Check the Trentitalia website. Some change in Foligno.
I did the St Francis Way from Assisi to Spello last year. Some parts are not well marked. Also a few sections were rather rocky but overall not a difficult walk. Bring plenty of water… not readily available on the trail.
It's only about 28 miles by road from Assisi to Spoleto.
You appear right about trains to Assisi coming from Florence and trains to Spoleto first go to Roma Termini and then doubling back north.
I've been to Orvieto--west of Spoleto and it's pretty hilly around there. But the road maps almost look like it's not as hilly to the east.
The area has a bunch of B&B's/agriturisimos that would be very good to stay in.
