We are leaving Naples on Air France, and connecting in Paris (Air France) on our way back to Atlanta in June. We have 1 hour and 10 minute layover. From my research, it looks like we will be in the same terminal, so we should have enough time. Anyone have any advice on this?
I doubt you will be in the same terminal, sorry. Air France flights within Europe typically use 2F, and overseas flights use 2E.
The walking time alone is 20-30 minutes, so 70 minutes is really tight - I think it's the minimum that booking engines will allow.
Since you are booked on a single ticket, it will be the airline's job to get you home if you miss the connection, but that might still mean waiting a day if there are no more seats to Atlanta that day.
It could be worth contacting Air France to see if they can move you to a later departure to Atlanta, if there is one that day.
Thanks so much for the replies! I am thinking about trying to change, and go through Rome to Atlanta. Might make things so much easier.
Train back to Rome the night before and fly from there?
I have done CDG with an one hour layover but it wasn't fun. It is easy to cover the physical distance but the real issue will be passport control. We found an airport employee while we were in line and she helped us move up to the front of the line. Had she not helped us we might not have made it. Dou't stop anywhere along the way. No time for the restroom or French souvenirs. And where your running (fast walking) shoes!
Good luck
Thanks so much for the advice. Yes, looks like we might have to get from 2E to 2F -- I think - Its been awhile since I've been in that airport. Still trying to get changed to departing out of Rome, but not having much luck with that.
Thanks again for all the replies and advice. I always receive such great info on this site.
CDG is either empty or complete chaos. Always plan for the worst at this airport and be happy when it's empty. I would never do 1 hour and 10 minutes since you will have to go through immigration as well, as you are exiting the Schengen Zone. If your Naples to CDG flight is at all late there is zero hope that you'll make it.
I have done it at least a handful of times. It is FAR! you will need to walk very fast, and then you will stress A LOT at passport control because the line takes forever. The US flights are also, typically, the last gate in the terminal. I suggest that you don't stop for the toilet or plan on stopping for any other reason. If you are traveling with kids, or anyone else (partner or friends), I suggest that you go over the plan before you leave Naples and get on the same page. If you have a slower traveler with you, then send someone ahead to get to the gate and let them know you are on the way.
I have yet to miss that connection, but my luggage doesn't have the same track record. Make sure you don't pack anything that you will need at home for a few days.
It is stressful, but you will be prepared, and it will all work out. Good luck.
FCO-ATL non stop is the way to go.
Go to Rome the evening before.
Easy Peasy.
We just connected through Paris from Seattle to Florence--it took about 2 hours from the time the plane landed until we were sitting in the AirFrance lounge close to our gate. Passport control and security was a nightmare. I know it's pretty hit or miss and as someone above me said, there's a chance it could be empty, but personally I would probably not book less than a 3 hour connection there if at all possible, and I'm not usually a conservative traveller.
Thanks so much for all the replies. I was finally successful in changing from Rome to Atlanta. So -that's one less thing to be stressed out about!
Wishing everyone safe and healthy travels in 2022!
Hello! I have been reading this thread and now I am stressed about our connection at CDG in July. We are traveling from Milan to Houston with a connection at CDG. We have a 1 hour 45 minute layover. Do you think the extra 35 minutes (compared to 1hr10min) will make a difference? Our other option(more expensive) is to connect in Amsterdam with a 1 hour 10 minute layover. I initially chose the longer connection time but maybe CDG is a more complicated connection than Amsterdam??? Thoughts or experiences?
I wouldn't trade one unknown for another based on anecdotes. We just transferred at CDG going Boston to Nice and it was a piece of cake (6:05 am between 2E and 2F). Took less than 45 min. with no lines at security or passport.
CDG can be a nightmare of time wasting. If at all possible, I would try to transit through another airport. Ditto Frankfurt and LHR (Heathrow). Paris Orly, Zurich and Nice are good ones, as is Brussels.
Transfer at Heathrow? Sacre Bleu !
I suggest you consider only recent traveler experiences. In my research, I found that many of the CDG opinions were based on info that was several years old. My own bias came from a time when buses were used for connections at CDG and that era seems to have largely passed.
