Connecting flight at FCO, changing terminals at FCO

I'm looking at a flight from Toronto to Rome (FCO) and then on to Genoa. The connection time is 1 hr. 35 min. but we would have to change from terminal 3 to 1. Is that cutting it too close, even if the plane arrives on time in Rome? Thx.

It might be enough time if you're not checking luggage, but definitely not if you are.

I guess our luggage would be checked in T.O. and then transferred in Rome to the connecting plane to Genoa so we wouldn't have to handle it again until we arrive at our destination in Genoa. Does that sound right?

Actually, I'm guessing that you'll probably have to claim your luggage in Rome, go through customs, re-enter security, and re-check your bag before you can board your flight to Genoa. EU typically makes you go through customs and re-enter security at the first airport in which you land in EU. I've had to do this a bunch of times at Heathrow, and it can definitely make for a close call. That's why I always try to avoid checking a bag. I'm getting ready to go to Europe for a month, and I don't think I'll have to check! Remember, you can always buy toiletries there, and you can find virtually whatever you would get in the US. Good luck!

Last time we went to Italy, we flew to Frankfurt from Toronto, went through customs in Frankfurt, changed planes to get to Rome, and only picked up our luggage in Rome.

James probably went through immigration in Frankfurt and customs in Rome. It's hard to go through customs without your stuff.
