I'm connecting from Toronto through FCO on to PMO, all on one itinerary. Will we collect luggage in FCO, and recheck? A well traveled friend advised we will go through customs on arrival in FCO, as this is first entry to Schengen, despite both flights being on the same itinerary.
Is this correct? We will collect luggage in FCO?
Your luggage will go all the way to PMO Palermo. You will not have to recheck it.
When you checkin the passenger services agent will clear this up.
You will only go through immigration passport control and not customs in FCO.
When you check in at Toronto your baggage claim tag that the agent will give you will have the airport code listed where it is headed.
You will also see that on the bag tag that the passenger services agent will place on it when you check in.
Your bags will go to the International baggage area in PMO not where the EU passengers' bags are unloaded. Don't panic, just go through the "nothing to declare" door after you pick them up.
Thanks all. That is what I originally anticipated, that bags would check through to PMO. Was surprised when I was advised that might not be the case.
