Confusing Time Entry for Giotto's Bell Tower, Florence

We're considering the Giotto Pass for our late September visit to Florence. We're trying to determine if there is a 45-minute window for entry. For instance, the ticket timeframe can say 17:15-18:00. Thus, would we still be allowed to enter at 17:45? Is this window timeframe set to deal lines and it is best to line up first thing? On another note, could it be hot climbing up if the weather temps are hot? Grazie!

I looked at my Giotto Pass ticket from our visit to Florence last October. It specifically states an entrance time (in our case it was 1245) and an exit time (1330). We were in line about 15 minutes before our appointed time and started entering the tower a few minutes after 1245. They are very efficient. One thing to know about the climb is that it's a two-way staircase, with people ascending and descending. Ironically, we didn't run into any people heading up as we were heading down, but it's something to be aware of. There are several places to stop along the way and rest and/or cool down if need be.

Reederman, That is so very helpful! The first time is the entry and the second time is when you must be out. Got it. I wondered if the single staircase was one or two-way. Now I know. Thank you so much!

I should also mention that they're very strict on not allowing backpacks on the tower climb. My Tom Binh small cafe bag passed muster, but several people in line in front of us were told that their backpacks would not be allowed and would have to be checked. One gentleman got into a very heated argument with the woman checking tickets at the entrance to the climb about this issue.

Thank you for the follow-up! I've heard the no-backpack loud and clear! I hope they let my purse go up. I hope they allow water bottles. The tower in Siena doesn't even allow those! We try very hard not to be ugly Americans!
