In Ryanair's defense they do call it Bologna-Forli, Frankfurt-Hahn, Stockholm-Skavsta etc. as a hint that they're not just flying into Frankfurt, Bologna, Stockholm... But I found Forli to be a great small airport with good train connections to both Bologna and Rimini... So not as bad as Hahn or Skavsta ;-)
There are two airport naming conventions, but for simplicity use BLQ. Bologna Airport
(Guglielmo Marconi Airport)
IATA: BLQ - ICAO: LIPE
Look it up on wikipedia
You MUST be flying Ryanair! In a continuation of their efforts to label airports like "Paris-Beauvais" (90 kilometers from Paris) and "Barcelona-Girona" (100 kilometers from Barcelona), Bologna-Forli (FRL) is actually in the small city of Forli, about 75 kilometers southeast of Bologna itself. It is known to Italians as the "L. Ridolfi Forli International Airport"....no reference to Bologna. Ryanair usually has pretty good shuttle bus connections to the main cities (like Bologna), but it'll cost you extra. Click on http://www.forliairport.com/main/index.php?id_pag=78&m=turinfo, then "shuttle bus connection" to the left to get details. Interestingly enough, the company that owns Marconi airport in Bologna holds a 35 per cent ownership share in Forli.
Thank you, Norm. Had I looked more closely I might have caught that too. Yes, many do not realize it but these discount air carriers often use secondary airports and the unwitting customer might book the ticket and get a rude awakening. I have commented on this at the website before.
Thanks for your assistance and sharing your knowledge
