Confused! Help with train tickets!

I am so confused please help!
I need train tickets for three days of travel while doing a 9 day trip to Italy.

My daughter is 18 years old. She would qualify for the youth ticket.
Here is my question:
Which kind of tickets should I purchase?
Eurorail, trenotalia?

These are our travel dates and cities needed.
June 12th Venice to Florence
June 14th Florence to Rome
June 16th Rome to Naples

That's three days of train travel, the only side train trip we may do is to Siena or Assisi on a Tuesday that the museums will be closed.

Eurorail is running a special till tomorrow where u get an extra day.

any advice please will accept any thing !!;)

I would suggest you look at this website www.seat61.com. This is where I go to learn about train travel. I know Rail Europe is for American customers only and they are more expensive with added fees! Hopefully someone with more experience than me will guide you too! But review this site as you will earn a lot.

Your journeys are easy and on most every "tourist" itinerary so you can be guaranteed you won't be the only tourist on the train. Eurail is a big NO NO for several reasons including overpriced and required reservations are not included.

Italy train travel is super cheap especially if bought early. go to www.trenitalia.com, choose English from the language drop list and put in your FROM and TO cities and your date of travel. Click the purchase button, print your tickets at home from the email sent to you, and be on your way.

Just fyi...the station names you'll need to know are:
Venezia S Lucia -> Firence SMN
Firenze SMN -> Roma Termini
Roma Termini -> Napoli Centrale

Call your credit card company BEFORE you purchase and tell them you'll be buying Italian Train Tix and to NOT block the transaction.

Don't panic and "accept any thing" - that is the easiest way to make a poor choice.

You don't say when you are traveling; if you can commit to a specific departure date and time, you can get tickets for as little as 9 to 19euro up to 120 days in advance from trenitalia.com. This would work for your travel on June 12, 14 and 16. These are on high-speed trains, come with reservations, and if you miss your train, you will have to buy a new ticket. Since your departures from Venezia, Firenze and Roma don't involve train changes, you will not have to worry about delayed connections. Use the Italian station names: Venezia Santa Lucia to Firenze Santa Maria Novella, Firenze SMN to Roma Termini, and Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale. All these cities have more than one train station.

Your trip to Siena from Firenze can best be accomplished by bus in about an hour travel time. Assisi will make for a long day trip.

There are three levels of ticketing pricing on trenitalia - Super economy, economy, and base. SE and E tickets are discounted tickets that come with restrictions - no change, no refund, etc. They are good for a specific train, at a specific time. Miss the train and the ticket is dead. There is also a limited number of these ticket available per train. per day so once sold there are no more. So if committed to a schedule, then buy early on line for best deal. Base is standard walk up fare available anytime. Your daughter is an adult.

It looks like you're trying to do 2 nights in each city. In reality that gives you 1 1/2 days... Not enough time for any day trips.

It pains me to make these recommendations, but either drop Naples, add 1 nite to Florence and Rome. Or do Florence as a day trip between
Venice and Rome( would require an early start) then add one nite each to Rome and Naples. If you decide to do the latter, luggage storage is available at the Florence train station.

It would help if we knew where you were flying in and out of.

Slowing down a bit will make your trip more enjoyable.

Thank you for all of you recommendations! Those were my next questions about which train stations in every city I should be leaving from.

I fly out of Naples is the reason for going there.

Yes I know the two days in each city is really not a lot of time but I couldn't take off work that long.

Thanks everyone!

When I compared the prices, the Eurorail pass did not seem worthwhile. I recently bought tickets the day before or day of for Milan-Venice; Venice-Florence and Florence-Milan and it was easily done with the machines at the train stations. Choose English and follow the prompts. If you do not buy the tickets ahead of time, you are not forced to follow the time schedule you chose. I didn't think the tickets were expensive and even bought some in business class since they were so reasonable.
