Have booked a room at an agriturismo near Assisi on Oct. 5 &6. I faxed contact and billing info. I asked for a confirmation but have not received a response. Assisi is very full at that time. Do guest houses and agriturismi not typically send out confirmations?

I'd try to contact them again by e-mail or by a phone call. It can be challenging to call in Italian, but you can put together the basics using the words in any guidebook.

Some dont answer emails. I would phone and ask to speak to someone who speaks English. Dont try to work with the person who answers the phone.
Ask for confirmation by email so you will have proof when you arrive. Otherwise you may not have a room
