About 10 years ago while in Venice I came across an ad at a church for a chamber concert at the church the following evening. We purchased tickets and totally enjoyed the concert. Can anyone offer any advice for such a concert in late August? Thank you for you help.
The church of San Vidal does concerts most nights. You pass by the church when walking from the Academia Bridge towards Campo San Stefano/San Marco.
There may be a guy outside San Vidal selling pictures; seagulls, gondoliers and the Lion of Venice feature in his works which are quite quirky. His name is Walter.
We found a wonderful Vivaldi Four Seasons concert in the Scuola San Rocco one evening by a random ad we’d seen. When we were there a few years later we tried to find a good online source of concerts but couldn’t find anything that interested us. When we got to our hotel we asked the desk clerk if they knew of any concerts and she got out a binder of flyers and showed us a couple we didn’t know about that were happening while we were there. So my method is still to research online but once you arrive look for posters near churches or public buildings and ask at your hotel’s front desk.
Lorie- We were in Venice late August of 2018 and enjoyed Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” at San Vidal (former church). We walked over there the day before and purchased our tickets in their foyer. The venue was wonderful and the church was magical. We are huge Vivaldi fans! Interpreti Veneziani, https://www.interpretiveneziani.com/en/
I think I have seen signs for concerts in the Scuola Grande dei Carmini, which is a pretty spectacular building near Campo Margherita in Dorsoduro.
Baroque music, but not your average 4Seasons.
I pity the musicians having to belt out Vivaldi, and only Vivaldi, every night.
I have been to choral performances in the Frari. A huge space overlooked by Titian’s Assumption at the altar; the echo seemingly to last forever, almost a reluctant silence falling.
Yes, Gregorian chant in the Frari. We learned about it by seeing a poster when walking by.
