Concert tickets in Venice

Has anyone ever purchased concert tickets for Venice? I would love to hear The Virtuosi di Venezia, or other string orchestra perform anything by Vivaldi. I found "Italian Events" online, but are they reputable?

They're probably reputable. The rule of thumb in Venice is that the more serious musicians don't wear period costumes. FWIW, we went to an amazing concert by Interpreti Veneziani in 2013. Tons of Vivaldi and a few other composers.

We are going to try the same concert Michael referenced. I know of at least one other person on RS tour last fall did the same concert venue and recommended it.

Edited to add, I don't think you need to buy tickets ahead of time but I can't swear by that.

You do not need to buy a ticket ahead of time and it is quite possible that your hotel may sell the tickets. There are several orchestras but the one I saw and enjoyed last Sept. was Interpreti Veneziani which is the one Michael linked to and our hotel was able to sell the tickets up to about 4PM on the day of the concert. It was the opinion of the lady at the reception desk that this one was the one that Venetians go listen to, but I have nothing to back that up. She said the same about costumes vs no costumes as well. No reserved seats, so get there early and get down front for a good view. The musicians were so passionate it really made me cry. I believe the tickets were 25€ but we got a Senior discount and I think it was 22€.

Thank you all for your feedback. The no costume rule is a good one!

If you go to see Interpreti Veneziani, do arrive about 20 minutes before when they say they will open the doors. We arrived right at the (alleged) door opening time and the place was already almost completely full. FWIW, the seats are folding chairs with cloth backs and cloth seats. There is no back support at all. Due to my bad back, I ended up being more comfortable sitting on the side benches that have long cushions. (The venue is a deconsecrated church, as are many small concert venues in Italy.)

These musicians are definitely passionate, particularly the cellist who is the leader. He has the entire Four Seasons committed to memory, which is an impressive feat in itself.
