Conca Verde/ Amalfi Coast

My family and I are travelling to Italy in September. We are considering Conca Verde as a base for exploring the Amalfi Coast. If you are familiar with the area, I would appreciate your comments, advice and suggestions.

Do you mean by Massa Lubrense? The main issue is that it is well beyond the last stop of the Circumvesuviana train to Sorrento. How do you plan to travel around the AC? Even in September, a car is not recommended. Does your proposed lodging include frequent shuttle service to Sorrento or another place? Does the hotel say that there is public bus stop within walking distance?

Edit: Most people who plan daily daytrips around the area by public transportation (you haven't said that is your plan ... some people just want to sit on a beach, assuming there is one reachable from their hotel ... ) choose Sorrento. But Sorrento books up six months in advance. However, it is a transit hub with a wide variety of room prices, and lots of restaurants.

Other people want a taste of international luxury, and stay in Positano. We had no interest in walking past endless international fashion boutiques (and up hundreds of stairs to get a "view".

Have you used the Search box for this newsboard. It will reveal a small number of posters who stayed in towns adjacent to Sorrento because they refused to sleep in such a large place, and were willing to accept a lower level of services in order to feel like locals - if there can be such a thing in a widely-visited waterfront resort area. Most people make a choice between Sorrento and the actual Amalfi Coast, based on their travel style.

I see. When I asked about transportation the host said the area was accessible by car which means there is no public transportation available. I am still not clear about the stated location: Conca Verde. I see Massa Lubrense but I can't see if it is somehow the related to Conca Verde.

Oops, editing my previous post as there's more than one Conca Verde.

The one being discussed is a tiny hamlet south of Massa Lubrense, and, no, there's no public transit there so you'd have to have a car. It's definitely not a location I'd choose for A.C. coastal exploration due to its isolation, lack of public transit, lack of restaurants and other tourism amenities within easy walking distance, and having to deal with driving to/from and around the A.C. during high season. Aside from the heavy traffic along the A.C., I would think it would be very time-consuming even getting to it from that location.

How many people will you be traveling with and what are their approx. ages?

I haven't been to that neighborhood, but looking at the map it seems more suited to Italians and other Europeans who are looking for a "slow" vacation, are comfortable driving and navigating the small roads, and perhaps have already seen the main tourist sights.

Thanks to both of you. I'm clear on the location and setting now. Do you have a suggestion for lodging for three adults in Sorrento? Checking VRBO and AirBnB, but wanted to hear your recommendations.

Millie, what to recommend depends on what you are willing to spend. You are very late for trying to land rooms in Sorrento during high season so desired price and amenities figure into the equation.

Also, where are you coming from, how long will you be staying and what do you want to do/see during your stay? Salerno might be an option, depending.
