Heading to CT (monterosso) from Milan central station. Both DB and Trenitalia sites tell me that the IC trains require compulsory reservations. Does this mean I must by before I leave US or can I buy at the station the day of my departure? Arriving Malpensa 8am looking to catch the 12 o'clock or 2 o'clock train that same day.
You can do either. Buy your ticket and reservation in advance or buy it at the Milan train station. I didn't think IC trains require reservations though, just the high speed trains like the Cisalpina. If you take the Malpensa Express from the airport to Milan it's a very quick 15-20 min. ride. You could easily make an earlier train to the Cinqueterre if there is one. I believe the Malpensa Express arrives in Milan Nord so you have to take the metro (subway) to the central station but this takes no more than 10 minutes. Also, Milan is my favorite airport to fly in and out of because it's so quick. There's no lines for customs. You just grab your bag and you're out of there. If you would like for me to check trains and tickets for you just give me a holler. I sell them all plus railpasses if you need one. FYI: if you fly Alitalia, the Malpensa Express is free. Such a deal.
Hi There,
I am travelling from Canada to Rome on Alitalia and then home from Florence to Canada..are there any other rails that if you are using Alitalia, they are free?
Thanks for the info,
LIsa
