Como S. Giovanni train station to Lake Como ferry

We will be arriving by train and catching the ferry w/ two big suitcases in tow. I think I have read where it is a ten minute walk from the station to the ferry, but am wondering if it is worth a taxi ride? (hilly or flat?) Anyone familiar with this? Thanks.

The terrain is flat and paved along the lakeside in the town of Como. You can preview the route on Google Maps. Of course, the lighter your suitcases, the easier it will be to navigate train stations or hills at your next destination.

We actually took the bus from Bellagio to the town of Como one day & ended up at San Giovanni train station.

Anyway, it's about a 15 minute walk form there to the ferry dock, but a taxi would be more convenient especially with luggage in tow.

There are also local (city) buses right in front of train station that will drive by ferry dock, but depending what time of day,
they may be very crowded.

As you may already know, there are 2 types of ferries that travel from the town of Como to Bellagio.
The fast one which takes about one hour & the slow one which takes a bit more than 2 hours.

You may check ferry schedules here: http://www.navlaghi.it/eng/c_illago.html

Enjoy!
