Comment on My Plan Plesse

It might seem strange but I wish we had flight changes from British Air and we could stay 2 more days. Alas, it’s not an option unless someone has a way around cost.

For now:
October 15 Flight into Rome
16 Arrival. We will check in to our flat in Testravere. Lunch then do Rick’s audio tour of our
Neighborhood. Dinner. Rest.
17 We can choose either our own walking tour or use The Tour Guy for the full day of Rome.
18 Train to Naples. Visit museums, etc. overnight in Naples.
19 train from Naples to Venice.
20 Day in Venice
21 Train to Florence.
22 Tour Guy to wine Country.
23 Time in Florence.
24 Train Florence to Fiumicino. Love that beautiful town.
25 Noon departure for USA.
?Am I missing too much in Rome. Should we leave Naples for perhaps a return trip for my daughter?
I made reservations but I’m sure I can change the Naples but I’ll need a filler for Venice. I might be able to push up to the Venice nights and go directly from Rome to Venice. I must firm up quickly to make my train reservations. Appreciate all of your knowledge.

The better option would have been fly into Venice (or Milan) and out of Rome. However, I'm finding that flying into Venice has become much more expensive this year. Milan usually has decent prices. So if BA tries to change your flights, maybe consider an open jaw (multi-city) option.
You're moving around too much. If your initial flight is delayed, you may basically lose your first day. I agree with Christine, skip Naples and add the time to Venice. I'd recommend at least three nights in each location.
Good luck and safe travels!

It's always best to fly into Venice and out of Rome (book MultiCity tickets, NOT round trip or OneWay). 3 nights in each place minimum. I'd skip Naples and just do Venice, Florence and Rome.

24 Train Florence to Fiumicino. Love that beautiful town.

??? Can't say I've ever seen Fiumicino called "beautiful". Were you referring to somewhere else?

Yes. And as you suggested, going directly to Venice upon arrival in Rome makes sense.

You have plenty of time to reserve trains...

Hi there, agreed to skipping Naples and adding that time to whichever of the other cities really excites you!

We can choose either our own walking tour or use The Tour Guy for the full day of Rome.

If it were my first visit, I would choose the full day tour with the Tour Guy, lots of great reviews and it lets someone else deal with the hassle of getting around Rome and maximizing your day. UNLESS of course you adore planning and really get into designing your custom route and booking things like the Coliseum, Forum, and Vatican City ahead?!

Personally, I would maximize time in Rome by leaving it to the end of the trip, if you're willing to get on a train at FCO & go to Florence or Venice?

Thanks everyone. We will skip Naples. We need to stick to original plan because we made our hotel reservations. Agree to let Tour Guy get us about Rome on our second day. It’s a little like planning a trip to NYC and think you can walk all around the neighborhoods. We stay at Hotel Tiber at the end of the trip to regroup our senses for the trip home. And yes, Fiumicino is cute and quirky just like old Italian section of Manhattan.
