Colosseum Underground vs. Guided Palatine and Forum

I'm trying to decide between getting the Colosseum underground and third ring tour vs. the generic Colosseum tour including the guided tour of the Forum and Palatine Hill. Does anyone have any insight as to which would be better? I think the underground and 3rd ring would be awesome, but I also don't want to be wandering around Palatine Hill and the Forum without a guide, not knowing what to look for or have any facts about it.

On the Colosseum website you can only get tickets for one or the other, they don't have them together.

Thanks!

I did the Colosseum underground & 3rd ring tour in 2015 and it was awesome. It was time very well spent and it really didn't cost very much, I booked it through the official coop culture site and it wasn't very expensive. Why not book tours for both?

I was thinking about that, but I'm kind of on a budget. Also, if I book both, would that mean doing the Colosseum twice?

Repeating again from your other post with the same question 'causeI think there's definitely value to having a guide for the latter two sites:

I'd opt for the guided tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill, and Roman
Forum. The Palatine and Forum are complex sites that can greatly
benefit from a guide's knowledge, especially structures which can take
some imagination/explaining to visualize when there's little left of
them. :O)

This would be the coopculture tour you'd want (3 hours):

It doesn't include the underground but tours which do that area don't spend much time down there, you can see down into it from above, and you'll essentially get the same info about it on a tour which doesn't include it. Anyway, the tour I've linked is a very economical option for folks counting the pennies! Note that this tour is ONLY available on Saturdays and Sundays.

Also, if I book both, would that mean doing the Colosseum twice?

Yes. You just wouldn't be doing the underground part (or 3rd ring, I believe, but won't swear to it) on the guided tour which includes the Palatine/Forum.

Well, I will only be there on a Wednesday (we are going to Vatican City Thursday) and leave Friday. I guess since they don't offer the tour of all 3 then my only other option is through a 3rd party for a guided tour of the other two then?

Correct: a third-party company whose guided tours include the Colosseum main areas,, Colosseum underground, Forum and Palatine is your only option if wanting to visit all of these areas in a single shot. I've covered a couple of those options in another poster's thread where you've asked the similar question. Here's yet another one:

Thanks Kathy, I looked at the coopculture website and when you click on the tour for all three, even though it says Sat Sun, it gives you the option to purchase any day of the week. You'd think that they wouldn't let you, but they do, and they still charge the price of the tour. Do you have any idea as to why?

Wow, that's odd! I was going off the days they designate (in writing, by the gray calendar) and figured if you tried to book a day of the week, it simply wouldn't let you. It sure looks like you can - or at least through March - so what the heck, give it a shot? I'll cross fingers!

The coopculture site makes me bugcrazy. It makes a lot of other people bugcrazy too. There have been SO many changes to the darn thing over the past year or so!! 😖
