I just email [email protected] to ask for information/times for the Underground tour for the Colosseum and Forum for May. They told me to call in late April. Is it difficult to get through via phone? Has anyone done this? I really hate to pay the 84 Euro per ticket for walks of Italy when the official site is only 23 euro. Please advise! Thank you in advance
The official site will cost you 25 each for entry tickets and the underground tour. You don't need to call to book anymore, you can do it online. Right now they are only booking through the end of February. They won't open more dates until mid to late February so just keep checking the website. I wouldn't spend 84 euros each for a tour you can get for a third the price. Don't forget that your entry tickets will also get you into the forum and palatine hill.

I did it by phone. It was really easy, no language problems and I felt confident by the end of the call that everything was taken care of. Plus I got to practice using my Skype telephone ap on my smartphone which made it a very inexpensive call and gave me the confidence I needed to make calls to and within Europe with the ap employing all those digits we aren't use to in North America. The only problems I recalled were opening hours (from my time zone had to phone after midnight) and I was put on hold so the Skype phone ap would be the recommended way to place the call. If you aren't familiar with the ap search on these forums because that's how I learned about it! You need wireless internet or be in a wifi zone to use it. Way cheaper than booking a tour company. Our guide was very well educated and provided an excellent overview of the site. Group was small and the staff very helpful and well organized.
Thank you both for your responses, this was a tremendous help!
How do underground tour reservations work when one has a Rome pass and wishes to use one of the free sites on the colosseum?
Just book the tour online, 9 euros plus 2 euros reservation fee. Once at the site show your tour confirmation to the guard who will show you which line to get in to check in for the tour. Once checked in just use the romapass to get through the turnstiles. It's very easy.
