Colosseum Underground Tix sold out - Anyone have luck getting directly from Colosseum?

Hello! We are a family of 6 traveling to Rome in 2 weeks. I'm late to the game and tickets for the English Guided Colossuem Underground Tour are sold out. I read on some older postings that it might be possible to get them directly from the Colosseum first thing in the morning because they don't necessarily sell all the available tickets online. Some folks said they would try everyday that they were there. This is an option for me since we will be staying close by.

Can anyone share their experience in doing this, and what your success rate was? I'm traveling with a 10 month old, so just want to weigh my risk/reward in dragging the little one out -- I'm sure any other parents of young ones know what I'm talking about. :)

We've also got 4 adults in our group (kids under 3 are free), so not sure what the chances are of us getting 4 tickets together... Thoughts??

Appreciate any and all comments/input!

If the tour is sold out online it's sold out. They don't hold back tickets for "possible" walk ups. Everything that is available is made available on the website. That tour has been sold out through the end of September since the end of June.

You could try the numerous private companies that do this tour to see if they may have any availability but they are much more expensive.

Hi, I feel like you are going to enjoy it regardless if you do the underground portion. It is really great and you see a lot and can still buy audio english tours where they discuss aspects of the happenings of the underground area. I recommend since you will be traveling with a 10 month old to get there early to beat crowds and the heat.

Also for a cool feel or vibe visit Castle St. Angelo which will allow you to walk around at a leisurely pace and exlore aspects of the castle. You can also walk along a walkway towards the vatican fora great view. There is a bar on site and a little cafe, some art work, and the vibe and feel of "being underground."

We did this Colosseum After Dark tour this summer, which covered the Underground as well as the upper levels. It was a very good tour, led by an archaeologist, and very uncrowded as they limit the number of tours and number of participants. If you can fit in a good nap during the day for your little one, the one at 8:40 might work for you. It had availability even for walk-ups when we were there in July, no guarantees for September of course.
