Colosseum Tours

we only have 2-3 hours to see the Colosseum. We need to from termini to the Colosseum. Is it worth it to buy a Roma Pass or just a combo ticket? How much are the tours from the tour people outside the Colosseum and are they any good?

Fill us in a little more. Why only 2-3 hours, are you leaving at a certain time to go to another tour, to leave Rome, to what? Are you in Rome for 3 days? If not, why would you even buy the Roma pass? We were staying near the Vatican and took the metro from Cipro to Termini, then switched to the line that took us from Termini to the Collseo (colosseum) which is two stops from termini and under 10 minutes. We were in Rome 3/21-3/25. We paid for the underground & 3rd level tour for 9.50 euros each. We spent 1&1/2 hours on the tour of the underground, the regular level of the colosseum and the 3rd level then we came back down and literally walked around the entire colosseum and were SOOO ready to go! We probably spent 2.5 to 3.5 total with the paid tour. Hope I helped!

You can walk up the Via Cavour to the colosseum or take the metro and get off at the colosseo stop. You'll take metro line B heading to Laurentina. If the colosseum is the only thing you'll be seeing then it makes no sense to get the romapass. Just buy your tickets at the palatine hill or forum office and you can bypass the lines at the colosseum. The tours offered outside the colosseum cost about 10 euros over the price of admission. They give good basic knowledge and usually include a free tour of the forum or palatine hill. Donna

Thank you for your responses. We will take the Metro. Can I get the Colosseum tickets where I sign up for the tours outside or do I have to go to palatine Hill

Most of the time the tour people will buy your entry ticket if you don't have one unless you tell them you will get your own. I would just buy it from the palatine hill or forum entrance or use a romapass if you have one. Donna
