We booked with a tour that was going to give us a tour of the Colosseum including the underground. Well, paid our money and the after a few days delay they told us we would have to hook up with another tour. That was ok. Then I get a note back today saying that it took too long for our pay pal amount to show up and they are now all booked up. :-(. I'm wondering if maybe we could just go to the Colosseum and see if we could find a tour guide there that would give us a tour of the Colosseum plus the underground. We really wanted to see the underground

I did that, plenty of English-speaking tour guides outside the Colosseum, as you walk up they intoduce themselves, tell them what you want to see, and they say what they do and how much.

Sandra, as far as I know, walk-up tours of the Underground are not possible. The amount of people allowed on those is very tightly controlled as I believe are guide services allowed to do that one. They might try some independent booking/tour companies for that like ticketitaly, WalksofItaly.com, througheternity.com, etc.

Official tours of the underground are pretty much sold out through the end of the year. Walk up tours can't access the underground areas, only the main areas. You might need to book with a private company if you want to get an English tour. The other option is to book a tour of the regular areas of the colosseum so you can hear the history and about its construction then take an alternate language tour of the underground areas. There is usually room on the alternate language tours but you'll need to do the research or take the prior tour in order to understand what you're seeing

The guide actually helped make the arrangements i needed, I did have to return, but it was Ok.
