I was reading that there are Colosseum Tours at night from March through December. Our anniversary is December 23, a Saturday, and there is one that evening. I was wondering whether anyone has done the night tour, and whether you think it is preferable to the day one, in late December? I read that natural lighting is most beautiful in Rome in December, and that photographs turn out better that time of year, so I had thought a day tour (for pics), but a night tour sounds romantic. The Christmas tree would no doubt be lit up at the Colosseum, but would we miss seeing stuff that would be visible by day there? Might not it be awfully cold in late December at night?

I'm hoping to take this tour in late September. I can fill you in then! 😉 I thought it would be great to see it all lit up at night. (I've already seen it and toured it by day 2 years ago).

How fun, Lisa! I can't wait to hear your report. My sis and I toured it by day in April this year and loved it, so I'm thinking a night tour would be novel and a whole different perspective. I hope you enjoy it.

It will be lit for the night tour. It's a really nice tour but in December it may be cold. I can't say if it's preferable to the day tour, that's a personal opinion and very subjective. The night tours are much easier to get than the day time tours. If you wish to see the colosseum during the day I would suggest simply buying regular entry tickets (14 euros booked online) and do both. This way you can also visit the forum/palatine hill, which are not included with the night tour.

Donna, have you taken the Colosseum Night Tour that includes the Underground Tour? I think that one sounds fun. It says it lasts 2 1/2 hours, starting at 7 p.m. I think you are right that we should do both day and night, and see the other stuff. Do you know of any Colosseum by Night tours on December 21? The only one I found was for December 23?

The underground night tour lasts for 75 minutes, not 2.5 hours. I'm not sure where that time came from.
Yes, I've done the night and day version of the underground tour. Both are interesting and different from each other. In December the night tours are only on Saturdays.
