Colosseum tix-yes, another ?

I can't believe how confused I am about purchasing tix for our upcoming trip. So, we have been to Rome before on a RS tour and have seen the main attractions. We want to go to the Mamertine Prison and Palatine Hill because we didn't get there previously. I thought I would buy the combo ticket because it would stink to get there and think, "I really wish we had tix to see the Colosseum again."

With the basic 12 Euro combo ticket, where does that allow us to go in the Colosseum? I keep reading about the arena and panoramic view. I think I know what this means, but now I'm questioning myself. We are planning on doing RS audio tours to add some information while we are there and not doing a guided tour.

Thanks!

Rachel, if you just want entry to all three sites (Palatine, Colosseum and Forum), this is the ticket you want:

This ticket does not allow access to any areas which require a guide or tour, such as the arena floor, underground or panoramic view (Belvedere). Do understand that you have to choose a specific day and time slot for the Colosseum, and your ticket is good for 2 CONSECUTIVE days after its first use.

"The ticket Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine and current exhibitions is valid for 2 consecutive days from the first use, for 1 entry to the Colosseum in the scheduled entrance time and 1 entry to the Roman Forum / Palatine within the period of validity."

A comment on the Carcer Tullianum (Mamertine Prison)? We did it some years back purely for archeological value (any other of its claims to fame are unproven) and were underwhelmed. They've made some changes since so while it may be better, I personally think its probably skippable.

Thank you, Kathy! I hadn't seen the Belvedere term before and after looking it up, it wasn't available when we went on our RS tour. Partly explains why I was confused about what panoramic meant.

My husband really wants to go to the prison, but I have warned him it is overpriced and there isn't a lot to see. I'm trying to tamp down expectations, so he isn't disappointed. It's always good to hear a firsthand account!

Thanks!
