Colosseum tickets online for underground tour

Am I seeing this correctly? It looks as if I can not book the Underground Tour at the Colosseum on their official website for the English speaking tour in May until April 18? That makes me nervous, makes me think I won't get a reservation? This cost is $25 and it only includes an Underground and Third tier tour. Thoughts?

Info from website:
Opening Underground Reservation for January 2017
It will be possibile to book on website underground Tours for individuals and underground group entrances every third Monday of the month for the following month:
Monday, December 19, 2016 for January 2017
Monday, January 16, 2017 for February 2017
Monday, February 20 for March 2017
Monday, March 20 to April 2017
Tuesday, April 18 for May 2017
Monday, May 15 for June 2017

That is correct. I'll be purchasing tickets on March 20 for my April trip. (Really the night of March 19). I don't foresee any issues but you never know.

The cost for the tour is only 9 euros plus the booking fee. You'll need entry tickets which are 12 euros plus a booking fee which is why the total comes to 25 euros. The entry tickets include entry to the colosseum and forum/palatine hill.

As long as you book soon after they go on sale you should be fine. Don't limit yourself to a single day that you can do the tour. Give yourself several options to choose from in case your first choice of date and time are taken.

We thought this was an excellent, small-group tour. Well worth the money and much cheaper than using a tour company. I agree that you should not have a problem booking your tour as long as you do not forget to do it!

Just beginning my research so this may sound like a daft question, but if you get the underground tour, and the third level (I think that is what someone said)...does that cover the whole colosseum? I really really would like to do the underground part for sure. Thank you!

Oh.... I was just on the site.... Does anyone know whether or not it is typical that there are no underground tours available after June, or is it just that it's too early for that schedule?? I am going Sept 21-25. Thank you for letting me bounce in on this post!

Elisern, re-read the initial post in this thread. It explains when tickets go on sale.

Thanks... I did see that the schedule is displaying on the colosseum site through June, and I appreciate the information and will keep checking to see if they open it up after June. The wording on the site almost sounds like it won't do any more underground tours after end of June, so I was just curious as to whether or not they typically do tours in August, Sept, Oct (I am going end September).

elisern, as stated on the site, they open up bookings on the third Monday of every month for slots the following month. They won't open booking slots for Sept. until the third Monday in August (8/21.)

Maybe a dumb question, but...

Looking at the tour group sites, they charge 100 euros for the underground tour. What do they do differently? Is it because they add the Forum and Palatine Hill?

Jeff- The only thing they do differently is they get the tickets, avoiding you staying up or getting up and using the internet to obtain the tickets. When I did bought the tickets they were still on the 3 month at a time schedule and obtaining the tickets was a chore - 2 computers and it took an hour to finally reach the site to buy the tickets. Hopefully releasing them a month at a time makes it a bit less hectic. What happens if you buy the expensive tickets is you join the $9 group for the underground and 3rd level part of the tour and then go with tour company for the Forum and Palatine Hill portion of the tour.

It is 9 am Rome time. You need to translate that into whatever time zone you are in. You should be up and ready to book at that time. If you wait until when you usually get up they will more than likely be sold out.

Just be aware that these tour companies don't always get all the tickets they need and can cancel on you at the last moment. I've seen this happen dozens of times with people being given no opportunity to get these tickets. I would be up and ready to purchase them if this is really something you want to do.

As for the actual tour, it's a good tour but it's not the "best" tour to take while in Rome. You're only in the underground area for about 10-15 minutes. You are confined to a small area where you look out into the corridors. You don't get to wander and explore the underground. You actually see more of the underground corridors from the regular areas without being on the tour.
