Colosseum tickets not available anymore for August...

I tried going to the official website online to buy ordinary admission tickets for August 4th, and well, everything is not available. Am I out of luck or will I be able to buy tickets for the Colosseum + Roman Forum + Palatine Hill on the day of at the site? How long do you reckon we will have to wait in line if tickets are able to be purchased on the day of?

Thanks.

They are not sold out but are released on a staggered schedule. The next release for ordinary-entrance tickets for August will be tomorrow at 3:00 PM ROME time:

@Kathy, I went on the website at 3pm Italy time today to buy tickets and they're all still not available. I checked an arbitrary date like August 28th and that day has numerous spots left for the later part of the day.

So am I out of luck now to get tickets online and my only option now is to wait at the Colosseum on the day of and buy tickets there? I know they say they release tickets the week before and the day before as well, but I feel like those attempts will be futile as well

Thanks.

Standing in line is not your only option and the LAST thing I would do. Attempts to purchase the day before or week before may not be futile but as you're very anxious, this is what I would do to nail a plan down....

Look at this 45-minute tour of the Colosseum in English:
https://ecm.coopculture.it/index.php?option=com_snapp&view=event&id=E6A1B5B3-BFDA-AC94-6929-0161B2E3A0C0&catalogid=BDB46B8C-0C49-10F2-6036-0167A8502B26&lang=en

There are many Aug. 4 tour tickets still available for a variety of time slots (I just looked). You can remain in the Colosseum after your tour for as long as you wish to, and your ticket also includes entry to the Palatine and Forum. As it only costs 5 euros more than an ordinary-entrance ticket, it's a really good deal.

@Kathy, that definitely looks like a good deal, looks like we'll just do that then. If I get those tickets can I visit the Roman Forum before I visit the Colosseum? How strict are they with how early or late we are compared to the time that we booked our ticket for? Since if we go to the Roman Forum before I don't know exactly how long it'll probably take us.

And also, when I do @Kathy, do you get notified that I tagged you? Haha, thanks!

Sorry, I can't swear that you can do that, although some folks have reported being able to get in before their tour times by showing their online reservations. Understand, though, that you can't split up your visits to the Forum+ Palatine. They are essentially a single attraction and you pass from one to the other inside the security perimeter. Once you exit either of them, you can't get in back in.

I would arrive 15-20 minutes or so before your scheduled tour to find your gate and pass through the security checkpoint. As stated on the website, delays can occur even for pre-booked visitors if they are very busy (which they will be). Do not miss your scheduled time slot!

...do you get notified that I tagged you?

Nope. I opted out of notifications and just check my forum history regularly for most recent activity on threads I've participated in.

Did they discontinue this promotion or am I missing something?

There have been a LOT of changes to Colosseum/Forum/Palatine ticketing this year, and others to all of the Italian National Museums in one way or another. Reference the coopculture website for current free-day schedule for the arena:

https://www.coopculture.it/en/the-colosseum.cfm

"The direction of the archeological park of the Colosseum determined the following 2019 free days without pre-sale:
9th of May
5th of June
29th of June
23rd of September
4th of October
4th of November
21th of November
18th of December"

Speaking of changes, I've just now noticed in the "News" section on the Colosseum page of the coopculture website that they're now saying next release of ordinary-entrance tickets for August go on sale today at 6:30 PM Rome time and not 3:00 PM. They've also changed multiple ticket sales times on the main page for info. This is yet another new change just since I pulled the site up yesterday morning, and why tickets probably were not available when you checked earlier. However, this does not affect your ability to book the 45-minute tour at any time as long as there are still available slots showing.

Every first Tuesday of the month Pre-sale of tickets with scheduled
entrance time for the ordinary access of the Colosseum and of tickets
with scheduled entrance time to the Colosseum arena: July 2nd at
6.30 pm (UTC+1) in monthly availability for the month of August 2019 both online and by call center

Yeesh... this has been so complicated for no reason lol. Ordinary admission tickets are indeed showing up now on the site, so I will be getting those after all. Thanks so much for your help.
