Colosseum tickets: New rules

Hi,
I had read some posts here the there wiil be some changes in Colosseum ticketing process effective Feb 1, 2024 but I was not able to find any info online. Any updates on this?
Also is it true that Coopculture is no longer the authorised vendor to buy the tickets?
We will be in Rome in the third week of May.

From what I found online it looks like the only ticketing place mentioned in the announcements is https://www.midaticket.it/ but I don't see any options on their site to buy tickets, they are still available on coop culture but only for a month ahead (that may be normal).

They were supposed to change vendors in this month but it hasn't happened yet. Their website, https://colosseo.it/en/, still throws you into Coopculture when clicking "Buy ticket" for any of the ticket/tour options. No idea when the changeover is scheduled to happen.

As you'll see by the availability of tickets per calendar dates on Coopculture, It's too early for May ticket release. And a head's up: tickets which include the underground sell out within minutes of becoming available. You'll have a much, MUCH better chance of landing any other ticket/tour than that one.

Editing to add: https://colosseo.it/en/ only comes up during the hours the attractions are open; Coopculture's site is open 24/7 so you can go directly there, skipping the other, as long as it's still the official online vendor.

Does anyone know why there are no coopculture tickets available for the English speaking underground tour in April despite the fact that it is now within the 30-day window? The website shows all dates in April as white, which would typically mean closed, whereas for other tour tickets the calendar shows either green, pink or grey for April? The March calendar for this tour shows all pink, meaning sold out, other than the 29th, which is when it is closed and shows as white.

Nope. Might have something to do with the anticipated change of ticket vendors that should have happened last month but might be sometime in May now (don't quote me on that). The website has been sort of wonky lately too due to some sort of fraud attack. They closed access from a pile of IP locations (including mine) but it appears to be getting back to normal. Just keep checking.

A word of caution, though: that ticket is so difficult to land that it would be best to have a plan B. They disappear in minutes of becoming available, as thousands of people want them, and enough of those folks stay up half the night be online and ready to push GO when slots for their desired day go on sale.

If it's only the Colosseum you're interested in, then look at the "Colosseum by Night" ticket/tour. It'll get you a look at the underground but doesn't include access to the Palatine and Forum. These tickets also sell out very quickly, though.

LOL - searching for Vatican & Colosseum ticks for late May yesterday with no success either.
I did come up with a functioning plan though: buy the cheapest "Get your guide" or "Viator" tour for each just so we have something. Most of those options are cancellable up until the last couple of days. That way at least we will have something and won't have to panic if we happen to miss the exact window the tickets go on sale.

Side note we happen to be in Rome on a Tues & Wed and the pope sometimes makes an appearance on Wednesdays. If avoiding a crown is a higher priority, would it make sense to do the Roman stuff on Wed?
