Colosseum tickets for June am I out of luck with buying direct?

I assumed that I had a bit of time to purchase Colosseum tickets. I was debating whether or not to purchase a Roma Card to use with the Colosseum and Borghese Gallery. I decided to look at available times, and they appear pretty much sold out on the coop-culture website. Are my only options to now purchase a tour to avoid the line?

If so...any recommendations? We are a family of four. Our children are ages 13 and 15. Our plan was to go at the opening of the Colosseum. I just don't want to risk not getting to go in at all as we are traveling in early June.

Thank you!

Exactly what dates will you be in Rome? It's possible you may have overlooked an available short tour or later-day time slot.

I assumed that I had a bit of time to purchase Colosseum tickets.

For the benefit of anyone using this thread as research for their own trips, never make this assumption. The Colosseum is Rome's #1 tourist attraction so tickets - especially for coopculture tours and especially for high season - can disappear within hours of becoming available.

Advance timed-entry reservations are required at both the Colosseum and Galleria Borghese if using the Roma Pass.

If you have the time, you can buy a Colosseum/Forum ticket across the street where the ticket line is short, see the Forum and come back to the Colosseum (same day or the next day) to stand in the security line rather than the very long ticket line. Use the Rick Steves self-guided tour. We did this in May 2017.

I can relate. I waited a little to long to buy Colosseum tickets also. I couldn't decide which website to go with and some people were having issues with the official site. I finally purchased them a couple of days ago for a May 19 visit. Most were sold out but I did find a 45 min. tour with entrance that suited. The time is not perfect but it will do. Also after the short tour I'll have time on my on my own to explore. Other than those there was some regular entrance tickets available later in the day. I'm not sure what time you're looking for. Good luck

Thank you for your replies! I kept searching on coopculture and found a tour with audio/video for the time I was looking for (8:30). I booked two adult and two free tickets. It cost a tiny bit more, and I didn’t really want audio...but I now have a timed entry ticket, so I am thrilled.
