We're looking to buy tickets to the Colosseum via https://ticketing.colosseo.it. We're looking at individual tickets. For some reason, all the "Full Experience" tickets are showing as unavailable for our dates (and all dates, really), but we can buy "24h – COLOSSEUM, ROMAN FORUM, PALATINE", and we can also buy tickets to the super sites. Of course buying them separate is more expensive than buying them as a full experience. My question is - do we want tickets to the super sites as well? Do they add a lot more value?
The €18 24h ticket is the basic ticket, one I have purchased the last 5 times I have gone. Its really the perfect ticket. "Full Experience with Underground and Arena" go on sale 30 days in advance to the minute. They are very hard to get, so in US, if it is 9:30AM in Rome, you need to buy at 4:30AM Eastern time. I tried for days at every time slot and did not get them. However, in December a Night Underground ticket went on sale 7 days out and I was able to get 4, probably because it was the off season. We had already purchased the €18 ticket, and paid €50 for the night tour. I currently am waiting to buy the "FULL EXPERIENCE TICKET WITH ENTRY TO THE ARENA OF THE COLOSSEUM" which also goes on sale 7 days out. Now the Super Sites, we went into the House of Augustus once, but I felt the Roman Forum is so overwhelming that it all became a blur after a few hours. I suggest googling the Super Sites and see if it's really something you would want to see. There is also a "FORUM PASS SUPER ADDITIONAL FEE FOR “COLOSSEUM, ROMAN FORUM, PALATINE_24H TICKET” HOLDERS" for €4 you can purchase with your €18 ticket if you want to add on later for the Super Sites. Hope that helps.
If you have more than a few hours available (at least 2 but preferably 3 or more) for Forum/Palatine and are interested in old Roman culture, for sure. Visit Santa Maria Antiqua church, House of Livia and House of Augustus, all in the Forum/Palatine area. Take into account that you can only once enter this area with your ticket and plan ahead whether you should do this bofore or after your reserved Colosseum time slot.
It was 10 years ago, so things may have changed.
But we booked a private guide for the Colosseum and Forum/ Palatinate Hill, and she had tickets for the underground of the Colosseum, which we wanted particularly to see.
