I dropped the ball and haven't yet bought tickets for the Colosseum. Just checked Coopculture which indicates they are sold out every day of our visit except the last full day. If I check with other tour operators, websites, even my hotel concierge will I likely get the same answer? I only need 2 tickets and I am kicking myself. Visiting in early April, not the peak season...

Yes I can buy tickets for the last day, but I am wondering if the other days' tickets were simply purchased by tour companies. Do the tours actually provide tickets or just the guides?

Yep part of the Rome travel experience. Florence too. If you get kicked out take new high speed train to Pompeii for a more interesting experience.
