Colosseum - Phone Reservations Seem Impossible - Ideas? and other related questions

I have been calling the number on the Colosseum Official Ticket Office website for two days now and cannot connect to a live person during their open hours of M-F 9-1 and 2-5. I get this far:
dial 011-39-06-399-67700 and connect
hear recorded message that Colosseum floor is closed beginning June 9 for repairs - no end date known
dial 0 for bookings
the recording says they are busy.
I hold.
after abut 10 minutes the line goes dead.

I am trying to book an English speaking tour for the afternoon of June 30 - either the third ring and hypogeum or the regular tour.
I am thinking about booking a private tour for 3 people to be done with this frustration but they are very expensive and include more than I want. In addition to the Colosseum, I would like see the Palantine Hill. My mom is 80 so I don't want to do the full tour of Colosseum, Palantine, Roman Forum. It will be too much hilly walking and possibly too fast. I sent a request to Walks of Italy to price a short private tour and am waiting to hear back. Any other ideas?

also I am thinking the walking is easier/more downhill if we start at the Palantine Hill and then walk straight through the Forum to the Colosseum entrance. Any thoughts? Advice appreciated.

Most people have had luck calling at lunch time . I know it says they're closed but a lot of people have gotten through. Remember that this is a very popular tour and may already be booked up. I know someone trying for next week was told that the three days they're in town the tour was sold out. You might want to email them to see if they can help:

If you want to tour the forum and palatine hill first you should buy entry tickets online. Then when you call to book the underground tour just let them know you already have tickets. This way you'll have tickets in hand and can visit the other two sites first.

Thanks Donna,
I sent an email to the address you listed and received a reply back from them that for this subject that the correct email address is [email protected]

I have sent a new email and am on hold again. Will let you know what happens.

Generally, what is the walk like from Palantine Hill through Forum to Colosseum? is it generally downhill? Do you have an estiamte as to how long it would take if we just walkg through at a leisurely pace ?

thanks,

AHA - I just got through and the word is through the end of June 2014, no English tours are available.
Would appreciate further thoughts on previous question about walking time.
thanks again.

Obviously going from the Palatine hill down to the forum would be downhill. The forum is very flat and it's a little bit downhill to get to the colosseum. As for walking time, it really depends on your interest in the sites but I would give each area at least an hour. They're pretty big with lots of ruins to see. Take an audio guide with you so you know what you're looking at. You might also want to get one of those "Rome past and present" books that they sell at the gift stores so you can see the ruins now and what they looked like then. This combined with an audio guide will give you a wonderful idea of what the site once was.
