Yes, it opened this past weekend. The official site for tickets is http://www.pierreci.it. You are able to obtain more information if you keep the site in Italian and translate it to English. On the home page click on 'Colosseo, Ropendono le visite agli ipoge', it will bring you to a page with all the times. You may have to call to make the reservation as I was not able to find a link to make reservations for the underground tour.
Good luck

Success! I was able to call this morn and book our ressies for guided tour of Colosseum both top and lower floor of the Colosseum. It was a bit funny when the ticket agent asked for my "mail" address and we had quite a time of it as I was giving her my home address when what she wanted was my E-Mail address. She and the others in the room with her could be heard laughing. It was finally figured out and all was well.

Laurie, I was following this post with interest because I also want to do the underground tour. Thanks for the tip about the "address" I will keep that in mind when booking my own tour in September. Linda

Hi, Question- If I purchase the listed Entrance ticket for 7.50, I suppose the guided tour for the underground at 8.00 is in addition to the entrance fee? And where do I pick up these tickets? Probably a stupid question, but... Thanks,
Greg

There are no dumb questions. I believe they have a combo ticket that includes the Colosseo/Forum entrance and the Colosseo tour. We are purchasing the Roma pass and so we we just needed the 8E reservation for English tour. You have to use telephone to make this type of reservation and they charge another 1,50E onto the 8 for each reservation. They merely gave me a confirmation number that I am to mention when we show up at the "Guided tour" desk inside the Colosseum. I hope this helps.

Laurie, When are you visiting the Colosseum? Trying to figure out how far in advance we should call to make our reservations. Thanks!

I reserved our spots for May 24. We are 6 persons traveling together and we needed a specific time in English. So I reserved a bit ahead. I have been to Colosseo twice before this time of May and it is pretty busy. Hope this helps.

Kristen, right now the website is booking the underground tours through August. You can go on the website to book these or call if you're using a romapass or already have entry tickets. 011 39 06 39967700 Donna

Thank you! We also need a pretty specific time and an English tour, so I'll hop on it!

After looking at the web-site, I'm unsure as to how to purchase the tickets for the lower level tour. Has anyone successfully booked this on-line? Also, do I have to purchase the main entrance ticket in addition to the underground tour ticket?

For purchasing online- On the website you'll want to scroll down about halfway till you see the "collect onsite" option. Click that and then enter the date you need. It will pull up the tours available. You click on the one you want. Buying online gets you the tour and the entry fee all in one. It should cost 21.50 euros but that includes the tour and entry. If you already have tickets or are going to use the romapass for entry you MUST call to book just the tour. You cannot do this online. The free tour is for EU citizens only and is not for people who already have tickets. 011 39 06 39967700 Just ask the operator if they speak English. They do or they will put someone on who does. Just tell them you want to book the underground tour but you don't need entry tickets. It's very fast and easy. Donna

Be careful if calling, as the gal I talked to had a pretty thick italian accent and when she asked for my "mail" address, it took quite while and many laughs for me me to finally understand that she wanted my e-mail address.

The official Colosseum tour lasts approx. 90 mins. according to the lady that I talked to in the ticket office.

I am following this as we are planning a trip to Rome this summer and would like to tour the colosseum. Is an advance purchase necessary for the tour or can we purchase tickets once we are in Rome? Thank you!

Kim, this is a very popular tour and if you wait until getting to Rome to book it you will probably be too late. I would suggest booking now if your dates are still available. Donna

Donna, Thank you. Should I use the official site that is referenced in the first reply? Is there any way to change the reservation due to poor weather etc? Thanks for your advice.

Is the underground tour available on Sunday? I thought I read that it wasn't in Steve's book but the website indicates that it is.

Once you book the tour there are no changes. If the weather is horrible on the day of the tour the colosseum might reschedule it but you can't do that yourself. If the website is selling the tickets for Sundays then they are doing the tours on Sundays. They are the official site to book tickets so they are the site to use. http://www.ticketclic.it/Gb/HTML/musei/colosseo.cfm Donna
