Colosseum kids tickets - guided tour

Hi, I am new to this forum and will be traveling to Italy this summer. I just purchased 4 tickets from the official website for my family to go on a guided tour of the Colosseum on one day and on another to get entry to the arena floor only. I couldn't figure out how to purchase tickets for children (I have a 14 and 17 y.o.) so I assumed they must be regular price. Now that I've bought them, I've found here in places that kids tickets for general adminission are free to the Colosseum. :-(

Two questions: Did I need to purchase tickets for them for a guided tour and special entry to the arena floor?

If I did not, am I out this money? As far as refunds go, it doesn't look like the organization is fond of providing them. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck on that or has been in this situation. Kicking myself at this point. :-(

Hi silkiebaby and welcome to the RS forums!

Please don't think I'm blowing you off but I'm going to refer you to this VERY recent post over on TA crafted by one of their Rome experts. It's very thoroughly laid out, and this paragraph addresses your question:

"If you are traveling with anyone under 18 and are booking anything other than entry tickets, such as a tour or an escorted visit, you will be able to book the free entry tickets online along with the tour or guided visit. There will be a category for booking the free entry with the add on of the tour/visit. If you are just booking entry tickets you will pick up any free tickets at the colosseum. You cannot get free entry tickets online."

So when you booked the tour, you should have been given the option of adding free tickets for your young people. I'm looking at the selection for the arena-only tickets and see there was the option of adding your free tickets to that one too.

Unfortunately, tickets have always been non-refundable and I haven't seen that it has changed. The only thing you might be able to try is to contact them and plead your case:

https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g187791-i22-k14772210-New_colosseum_booking_information-Rome_Lazio.html

But look at it this way? If they can't be refunded, at least you managed to GET tickets! There are oodles of people staying up half the night to try and get 'em and would gladly have paid the extra just to have them in hand! :O)

Thank you so much, Kathy. I do see now where that drop down menu is. I originally saw that and processed it as free tickets for those who are helping disabled persons, teachers, etc. I did not notice the drop down when I was booking. Now I see that at the very bottom I could have booked kids' tickets. Grrr! So agitated with myself! At any rate, I have sent a message to the contact link that you have above with plenty of mea culpas in the hopes they may shift the two tickets over to kids rates. Fingers crossed! Regardless of what happens, we are keeping those tickets for sure!

Aw gee, ya'll are making me blush.
I'll cross fingers for you, Silkie, but if you have to eat the cost don't be too hard on yourself.
Have a great time in fascinating Rome!
