Colosseum: Get There from Prati, Roma Pass to avoid lines on Free Sunday

What is the best/fastest way to get from our rental in Prati neighborhood to Colosseum on free Sunday: uber, bus/metro, walk?
Does the Colosseum open at 8:30a on Sunday?
If we get Roma Passes, will we be able to get into a much shorter line for Roma Pass holders only? If so, what time should we plan to arrive?
Will we have access to the underground on free Sunday?
Can we purchase audio guides on free Sunday?
Thx!

neighborhood to Colosseum on free Sunday: uber, bus/metro, walk?

Walk was our preference from Prati but you'll cover some ground. Metro would be the next best: you'll have to switch lines from A to B at Termini.

Yes.

If we get Roma Passes, will we be able to get into a much shorter line
for Roma Pass holders only?

Last I knew, yes, but it counted against your pass...meaning you'd use up one of however many "free" entries you're allowed on it so "Free Sunday" won't be free. Again, this is last I knew and things can change so I'd advise contacting the Roma Pass office for confirmation. [email protected].

Will we have access to the underground on free Sunday?

You cannot access that area without a pre-booked tour and I don't think tours are usually available on free Sundays.

My 2-cents on this? I'd avoid the Colosseum on that Sunday and do something else. The place is crazy enough on regular days, and it'll be mobbed on that Sunday. I'd choose one of the less-visited free sites or one not covered by the pass so as to save the one or two "free" entries it covers, depending on the pass that you purchased.

So for my hubby and myself, can we buy one Roma Pass and use two entry tickets to buy pass the regular ticket line? Or do we each need to buy Roma Passes for each of us? We literally only have one day for the Colosseum.

Thx!

You would each have to have your own Roma Pass: you can't share them. They don't sell entry tickets at all for free Sunday, that's why it's free!

How long are you going to be in Rome? Forgot to note above: you can use your pass to ride the metro and local buses: read the information on the website.

Sunday is colosseum, Monday is Vatican, already have tix and then off to Tuscany. At the colosseum, is the Roma Pass holder entrance clearly marked? I understand free on first Sunday but trying to see if having a Roma Pass will shorten our wait to get in if there is dedicated entrance for pass holders.

As mentioned above, I'd advise contacting the Roma Pass office for absolute confirmation that you can use the pass for priority access on that Sunday

[email protected].

But I'll also mention that it's not impossible to do the Vatican AND the Colosseum on the same day. It depends on how much you booked at the Vatican, what your time slots are, and whether you want JUST to see the Colosseum or the Forum and Palatine as well.

You are aware that the Roma Pass doesn't cover anything at the Vatican, right? I'm a little unsure why you want to purchase it if you only have one day to use it?

I emailed Roma Pass earlier today. My only thoughts on buying a Roma Pass are IF it saves us time getting into Colosseum as early as possible then it will be worth it to us. Yes, I know Vatican is not included in Pass. Full day at Vatican on Monday. Thx for your insights.

Great: crossing fingers that you'll get the OK for priority access!

Their response:
on free Sunday you can decide if you want to use the special entrance reserved for RomaPass holders, so that you can save time but you consume one of the free RomaPass admission.
If you don’t want to consume your free admission during the free Sunday, you have to stand on the line to get the free ticket at the boxoffice.

Best Regards

RomaPass Staff

Now I'm just waiting to hear from them approximately how much time the special entrance will save us.

No one can say for certain how much time you'll save because no one can predict how long the lines will be when you get there. The free lines move very quickly, it's just getting a free ticket then going through security. I certainly wouldn't waste a free entry on the romapass for that. If you're going to do that why not just go on Monday and avoid the free Sunday crush.

I didn't read through all the answers but they don't conduct underground tours on free Sundays.

Donna,
If the free lines move quickly, what is a good time to arrive prior to 8:30 to get in line?
