Hi,
We are planning on being in Rome for 4 days in May and Hope to visit the Colosseum. How far in advance do you need to purchase tickets to go inside and where can you get them? We were also thinking of taking a day trip to Sorrento or is that too much to do with only 4 days in Rome.

Colosseum tickets can be booked 30 days in advance of the date you intend to visit. Most tickets, except the underground, should be easy to get if you are flexible on the time of day you enter. A day trip to Sorrento is manageable. You might consider hiring a private taxi (Monetti Taxi) to pick you up at Napoli Centrale and taking you on a driving tour or Sorrento, Positano, Amalfi, etc. When we hired them, they dropped us off in a town and simply waited nearby for us to call to say we were ready to go to the next town.
