Colosseum Advance Tickets

Hi,

How beneficial is it to PRINT out the advance tickets that one purchases for the Colosseum? I may want to buy them online but may not decide on that (vs. Romapass) until after I no longer have printer access.

What is the hassle factor for NOT printing, but just having the reservation paid for, in other words? If low - I may wait; if high - we will decide now not to do Romapass.

Thanks!

You don't actually get a ticket. You get a booking voucher. This allows you to skip the ticket line and go to an advance booking window where you get your ticket. We showed our voucher number on a phone to security and at the window with no problems.

You can actually choose the print at home option and print out full priced tickets. The benefit is you can visit the forum and palatine hill first if you wish. You also don't need to stop by the special events desk to turn in your voucher. It will save a little time but picking up tickets isn't difficult either. You just won't be able to go to the forum/palatine hill first.

You may want to book a tour for the Colosseum, I know it may seem like a rip off, but unless you show up very early even if you have already got your tickets at the Forum you will still have to wait in a very long line. It is not too expensive and will save precious time in Rome with lots of over crowded sites.

If you do not book a tour, I would recommend purchasing your tickets from palazzo all temps just north of piazza navona. Great way to bypass the long ticket lines.

You do not need to book a tour to skip the ticket lines. If you purchase entry tickets online or at the palatine hill/forum entrance you skip the lines at the colosseum. Just show the guard at the front of the lines and he will put you in the proper line. There is no need to wait in the ticket line if you already have tickets. You may find a short line to get through security but there is no way to skip this as everyone must go through the check point.

This time of year even if you already have obtained your tickets the line is very long to get into the Colosseum, the only way to avoid this is to be escorted in with a tour. Or get there very very early. Just saw this for myself three weeks ago. We tried a late entry first and still the same issue. LOTS of people in Rome this time of year.

What is "really really" early? I think it opens at 830am, so does really early mean getting there at 6am and waiting for 90 minutes to get in?
