Does the restoration work at the Colosseum ruin the visit?

I should probably add- we were there this Sept- there was only a small part of Colosseum that had scaffolding- and it did not interfere with our tour or pictures- we got some fabulous pictures of the whole area.
There are a lot of sights in Rome (and Italy in general) that had restoration work/scaffolding while we were there-Trevi of course and the Spanish Steps area, San Marco in Venice, area around Rialto Bridge ... it's just to be expected.
