I am reading so much conflicting information about the colosseum underground tour. Does anyone know first hand is the underground open currently? Also does anyone have any experience with booking the tour through tickitaly? I know it costs more but the tour also includes a forum guided tour and I could book online.

The underground section is not currently open for tours due to the flooding in November. They may open in the end of March or April but nothing has been announced yet. You should book through the official site when making a tour reservation. http://www.ticketclic.it/Gb/HTML/musei/colosseo.cfm It doesn't include a tour of the forum but you can easily arrange that for yourself and save some money. The underground tour and entry to the combo sites cost 21.50 last year. Unless there is a price increase this is what is should cost this year. You will be able to book the underground tour online as soon as it becomes available. Just click on the "collect onsite" option half way down the page to see available tours. Once that tour becomes available you'll see it listed as "sottorrenean". Donna
