I'm about to book the Underground Tour for the Collosseum and have a couple of questions before I chose the tour time. Can we enter the Colloseum on our own with the Combo ticket (collosseum, Forum, pallatine) and then show up for tour later. Or the reverse, take the tour, go to lunch, then back to explore the Collosseum on our own? Not sure if the tour ticket is separate from the one entry per site, or considered one and the same?
Second question, we'll be arriving by train either 9:30 or 10:30, drop our bags off at our hotel, a few blocks from Termini. Would we be too rushed to make the 12:20pm tour at the Colloseum, especially arriving at 10:30am? We'll take the Metro after stopping at the hotel.

I don't think you'll be too rushed if you take the 12:20 tour. That seems to be enough time to check into a hotel near the termini and get to the colosseum. As for the colosseum, if you buy the ticket and tour combo (22.50) you won't be able to tour the forum or palatine hill before your tour. There have been several people who have tried this and they were told to come back at the time of their tour. The way to get around this is very easy. When you go to the official site: http://www.coopculture.it/en/ticket.cfm?office=Colosseo&id=2 Use the print at home option to buy the tickets and print them at home. With tickets in hand you can visit the forum and palatine hill either earlier in the day or the next day if you wish. Then you'll need to call to book just the underground tour. It's a very quick and easy call to make. Doing it this way gives you the most flexibility. 011 39 06 399 67 700 As for leaving for lunch, once you leave either of the sites you will not be allowed back inside. The ticket or the combo tour ticket is good for one entry into each site so no leaving and coming back. After the tour you can stay inside the colosseum for as long as you wish. Donna

Thanks for the guidance, Donna. Sounds like the best plan is to start our day in Rome with the 12:20 tour at the Collosseum. Then after the tour, we don't have to be on any schedule for the rest of the day and can see the Forum, Palatine Hill and where ever else we wander.
