Colliseum Underground Tour

Hi all, I am struggling with how to schedule a semi private group tour with a colliseum underground tour (so we wont have to pay admission twice), and I found a tour from Dark Rome that includes both for 89 euro each, 3.5 hours. Since most semi private tours are about 60 euro, its a pricey mark up... but we would only have to pay for admission once (11 euro), and the underground (9.5 euro), and we would have the benefit of a seperate guide from the general ones, who I've read are sometimes difficult to understand. I've looked for a similar tour from other companies, but have not been able to find them. Our other options are to tackle on our own (audio guides), hire a private guide, or enter twice, once for the underground, and once with a private company. Thoughts? PS. Here is the link to the Underground Tour: http://www.darkrome.com/early_bird_skip_the_line_semi_private_colosseum_and_ancient_rome_tour.aspx?id=79

Laura, Consider the underground tours offered by the Colosseum for 8 eros over general admission price (don't forget to tip the guide at the end). Those aren't advertised and so the groups tend to be small (ours was just the 2 of us and the guide) since almost no one knows about them. The other groups we saw were no more than 4-6 people (end of April), also. The amount of underground that we saw was minimal (but worth it) and these tours also take you to the 3rd level (closed to public and the highlight for me) which offers the best views available there. If you go in the mid-morning, sign up for the guided underground tour and then see the 1st and 2nd floors while waiting for your guided tour time (request english tour, of course). To sign up, work your way past the left side of the queue until you get to the Roma Pass line (whether you have one or not). The signup window for the guided tours is the last window before you have to pass through the entry turnstyles. I was confused at first because it says something about guides or tours while everyone in front of me was using it to buy audioguides. Have fun, Randy

I asked this same question earlier in April. I received some excellent information suggesting I call the Colosseum directly to book a tour with their guide. The telephone number is +39 06 39967700. They speak first in Italian and then English, so be patient. I was able to book the tour for two for $61.20 american dollars. The tour company was going to charge us over $250. One of the people who responded to my question said that he took the tour in November and the guide was one of the archeologists. Good luck.

The only official sellers of tours is Pierreci. They can be reached by calling 001 39 0639967700 Everyone else is a reseller. I would not pay that much for this tour when you can get it for 9.5 euros. I'm not sure what you meant be not paying admission twice. Once you're inside the colosseum you don't have to exit until you wish. If you book a tour just go early to see the main sections of the colosseum then show up for your tour. If you wish to book a tour of the main sections just schedule if before your tour of the underground. This way you can get inside with the first tour and will be inside with for the underground tour. No need to exit. Just be sure your tour of the main section doesn't include a tour of the forum after the colosseum tour. Then you would have to pay twice for entry. Donna

Laura, Please listen to everyone here, especially Donna (she knows her ITALY)!! I posted a post about this that ran for about 4o something posts...lots of info. I called the number, and the minute they spoke Italain I asked if they spoke English in italian and they immediately said yes and helped me! I paid $9.50 E twice for myself and my fiance and it came to 19E. I kept the code, showed up there with my Romapass and got in fine... Please do NOT spend all that extra money!!!!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone. The reason I had asked is that we had originally planned on doing a small group tour with a company; but the underground was not included. My husband and I have decided just to book the underground tour, and see the colliseum with Ricks audio guide while we are there.
We are not planning on getting a Roma pass- so will the entrance to the underground tour/Colliseum also include the Forum??

The tour and the entry fee are separate so you'll get a ticket which you can use at the other 2 sites. The ticket for entry is also good for the forum and palatine hill which you can see on the next day if you wish. The ticket is good for all three sites for 2 consecutive days but you are only allowed one entry into each site. Donna
