Traveling with 7 of us for the first time to Rome. I found one site that said you cannot buy tickets on Sunday.. that they are free first Sunday of the month. Found another site where you can buy tickets beginning at 2:50.. site says it closes at 6:00. Found another site saying it closes at 7:15 that day. Ugh! So difficult to know what to do. Is 2:50 too late to get tickets? Another post said don't even worry about getting tickets online as I can just get them at Palantine Hill or the Forum and there should be no line or a much shorter line. Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

There was quite a lot of confusion over June 2, 2019 at the Colosseum awhile back. Coopculture wasn't selling tickets for that day, and it appeared to be because of a national holiday (Festa della Repubblica) and annual parade closing streets around the arena. See this previous thread:

As noted by the poster who called, it was uncertain if or when the Colosseum would be open. I've just checked the website again and while ordinary entrance tickets are either sold out or not on sale at all, they do appear to be selling tickets for the afternoon, 45-minute tours in English so apparently it will be open at least part of the day. As tickets for this attraction have become a challenge to get (and especially as late in the game as you are at this point) I'd jump on them.
There have been a lot of changes this past year to ticketing for this attraction so there's a lot of outdated info out there.

I had friends in Rome last week who couldnt get tickets, i myself had to buy a tour to get in. The tour was great though. I think seeing it from the outside is all thats needed really
