Colisseum Tour- Private Tour or Walksofitaly ?

Hi, We got in touch with Francesca Caruso who was highly recommended by RS but she was booked. We are now trying to decide which is the best option- to do walksofitaly ( 12 people in the group I read) or do a private tour with another guide. Would the experience differ between the two? Thanks.

Hi, I took three Walks of Italy tours last October. They were excellent. None of them were full with the 12 maximum. Our Colliseum Tour only had 4 people. So the tour size depends on it a lot or just a few people want to go on a tour when you want to go on a tour. Pot Luck. The Night walk tours might have been full but a 2nd guide showed up and we split the group.
Jason, the owner of Walks of Italy gave us a tour in 2003 and we had him again in 2010. They are very good tours. A good guide is a good guide if there are 2 or 12 people. A bad guide is just bad guide. And of course a group tour would cost less and would probably be just as informative as a private tour. IMHO. I am on a RS unguided tour and plan on going on at least one of his new tours. Robert

I just booked 2 different Walks of Italy Tours (Vatican/Sistine Chapel and Colosseum) for my family on the recommendation of a personal friend who had gone on their tours recently with rave reviews. I have to say, I emailed a question to them (Linda answers), and received a very informative and personal reply. That always earns a plus in my book. Haven't taken the tours yet, of course, so keep that in mind. :)

Me too. We booked the Pristine Sistine with Walksofitaly. Will book the Coliseum with them too but just need to decide on the particular day. We have Sunday and Monday free and would like to see the Colisseum and Orvieto. I am not sure which day is best for Colisseum and which day is best for Orvieto.

We were very satisfied with and strongly recommend a private tour with Sonia Tavoletta ([email protected]). We used her for 3.5 hours each at the Vatican and Colosseum/Forum/Palatine. For the Colosseum, we paid the 40E fee for them to open the undergound/3rd level gates for our private guide. We spent about an hour in the underground/3rd level areas completely alone - just our guide, a Colosseum staff chaperone, and the two of us. It was well worth the nominal incremental cost, compared to a Colosseum or private group tour.
