Hi,
We will be in Rome in a couple of weeks. We had thought we were going to go super early on the free Sunday, but are reconsidering. If we buy the open ticket for another day, can our two children (14 and 11) walk in with us without a ticket?

Everyone needs an entry ticket. The "open" tickets are only valid after 2pm but you can buy "free" "open" tickets for them that will allow all of you to enter together. "Timed" entry tickets are not available for "free" entry. With the "free open" tickets you'll go through security, stop by the desk to get your free tickets, then go through the turnstiles into the colosseum. You may wait 5 or so minutes at the desk but it won't be anything like the wait to buy tickets.
