Coliseum under ground tour

We are putting together a last minute trip and Rick’s book has not arrived yet. The site that we are looking at has the timed entry tickets but listed that you can’t go to the 4th and 5th levels if I remember right. What is up there? Also they list an option to go on the floor for a little more. Sounds pretty cool. For about $50 more per person you can go on a tour under the coliseum. Any body done that? Is it worth an additional $100 total? Thanks in advance for your replies

Yes, we did it. For us, it cost 68 Euros total (34 Euros each). This was not in addition to the regular entry price. When I look at the official website, the price for the Full Experience ticket is 6 Euros more than the Regular ticket (both also include the Forum and Palatine hill). It's 24 Euros vs 18 Euros. (Not sure why it's less now than it was in November.)

So, yeah, I'd say it's worth it.

However, if your visit is less than a month away, you could be out of luck or will have to go with a tour group or reseller. Tickets that include the underground sell out very quickly at the official site--sometimes within an hour or so--of when they go on sale (30 days in advance). Right now, it looks as if they are all sold out for the next 30 days.

My wife and I did the underground and upper level (belvedere?) tour six years ago. We were able to go out on the floor as well. Don't recall the price but we thought it was well worth it. The underground in particular was pretty fascinating to me.

Then three years ago we did it with our children. Only problem there was there was only tickets for a Spanish tour for a group of size. We Did it anyway and my wife and I remembered enough to make it interesting for the kids. Still worth it.

It'll be some time before we go back I think but it was worth it both times. See what tickets are available and go for it if you've never been.
